Outdoor Recreational Sports and Outdoor Activities

The Great Outdoors at Dusk

Enjoying your sport or sporting activities outdoors has special qualities. There is nothing like being out in the elements. Every day and every challenge is different. There is so much to enjoy summer and winter, wet or dry.  The wonderful thing is you do not even have to be brilliant at your sport to enjoy it.

Taking part and pushing yourself to your desired goal, however modest, is all it requires. If you have not done any sport for a long time s tart gently and increase your activity over time. You will feel great once you start. Maybe not for the first day or two I will admit but after you play and execise regularly you will feel pretty good and pleased with yourself.

You can do whatever you want to do. You will feel so much better when you do, so is there anything stopping you? Take a look around, there is a great big world just on your doorstep and we are going to look at some of the possibilities that are open to you.

RunningWalking, running, trekking or hiking are all sports and activities that you can take up today. You can be solo or with your partner, with your family or friends. The basic equipment is you. Once you get into it you may need some extra kit but essentially all you need to do is do it!

Cycling is something we all do as kids and then what happens? We find motor cars and bye bye bike. Does that have something to with meeting boys  or impressing girls I wonder.  Well how about resurrecting that old machine and taking it for a spin?

Well maybe that is a little extreme but you could consider throwing your leg over once in a while and going for a ride. After that who knows where you will end up? Mountain biking, race cycling or competing on your BMX are just some of the possibilities. Who knows where you will end up.

Sailing Water sports are a personal favorite of mine. Whether it is swimming,  snorkeling, diving, sailing, water skiing or one of the more recent newcomers, wake-boarding or kite-surfing, it does not matter. Getting out there, in, on or under the water it is all great sport. I never did really get the hang of surfing or wind surfing but that is another story, If you ever wanted to have a go just go and do it. You might say there are  too many sports and not enough time!

Back on dry land golf is always popular and there is bound to be a club or golf course near you. Go ahead and join up, get some lessons, practice your swing and play a round or two. See how much better you feel afterward.   You will certainly feel on top of the world when you first hit that ball cleanly, sweetly and to perfection.

TennisTennis is of course another great favorite. More energetic than golf, what with all that running around the court, it is a great form of exercise and very sociable too.  Tennis is played worldwide and there are plenty of places to get a game. Playing tennis will improve your stamina, agility, co-ordination, concentration and speed.

Swimming is highly recommended by physicians and fitness coaches for all Swiming Outdoorssports men and women because it is a no impact sport. You will gain a good degree of fitness without damaging your joints. If you have never swum then you will need some lessons just to get started.  You can never learn to swim too soon and after that you can swim anywhere.  Swimming is a useful life skill that can leads to other water sports too.

SkateboardingYou do not have to leave town to enjoy many of the sports that are available to you. Skateboarding for example, is a basic form of transport yet at its best, it is an acrobatic art form on wheels. I would not recommend taking it up past your youth because it hurts when you get it wrong. Those that practice and get really good at it are a marvel to behold. Those guys are skillful and very fit!

Back to the water and fishing. Fishing has always been another passion of mine and while I Deep Sea Fishingprefer sea fishing I have done my share of carp, trout, bass and catfish fishing too. Fly fishing is an art all to itself and fishing for salmon has got to be one of the best thrills of all. What a great pastime, what great sport. You do not need to have a great amount of gear to start fishing so why not give it a go?

HeliskiingThere is plenty of snow around for everyone, so enjoy it. During the winter months skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling and sledging are all super sports. And did you notice they all begin with “s” too? (I could have written tobogganing but that would have spoiled it.) You know that you can cross country ski, alpine or downhill ski and you can back country ski. But how many of you are up  for the extreme skiing sport of heliskiing?  That is jumping out of a helicopter and skiing home across the deep virgin powder and you need some experience for that as you can imagine!

Camping encompasses so many aspects and values of life. You can enjoyGo Camping camping on so many levels. If you have never been camping then give it a go. From a modest tent to a full blown RV with all the works, it is all the same. Just pack up and go. Spending the evening by a camp fire after a day out in the open is anything you want to make it. Enjoy the moment.
